Community Food Action Initiatives

The goal of the Community Food Action Initiative is to increase food security for the BC population with a focus on vulnerable populations. Each Regional Health Authority and Local Health Area will be engaged to support this goal by focusing on the following specific objectives to increase

All of the funded projects within VCH are operating with 3 year plans that have been developed by local community-based food security committees. These communities include:

Bella Coola Valley Sustainable Agricultural Society
Community Food Action Initiative

Promotes food security awareness and capacity building strategies to engage community members while establishing related initiatives in the community.

Britannia Community Services Centre Society
Grandview Woodland Food Connection

Fosters a healthy food community by delivering a spectrum of programming supporting local food security using community capacity building and community development to build knowledge and skills through educational workshops, strategy sessions, blogs and partnerships.

Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House Society
Right to Food Network

Promotes an awareness and understanding of local food sovereignty issues by integrating Food Charter principles into DTES Neighbourhood House and the community, thereby enhancing the quality, nutritious value and dignified manner in which food is donated and received.

Hailika'as Heiltsuk Health Centre

Promotes food security awareness and capacity building strategies to engage community members while establishing related initiatives in the community.

North Shore Neighbourhood House
North Shore Edible Garden Project and Advancing Food Gardening Grant Program

Works to create an integrated and comprehensive approach to food security on the North Shore through the formation of a partnership of local services within a North Shore Food Security Advisory Council.
